Ontario Lt.-Gov. Hilary Weston visited the Barrie Women's and Children's Shelter where she presented the award to volunteer Norman Hobbs who has been the Shelter's faithful Santa for more than 12 years. "His commitment to these children has been kind and gentle and leaves every child and mom feeling like they are special in Santa's eyes" said Sylvia Patfield, executive director of the shelter.
Weston, presenting Hobbs with the award said, "thank you for your wonderful commitment to this Shelter and the community."Hobbs, unaware that he would be receiving such an award, had another surprise when his wife and grandchildren were on hand to congratulate him. "I'm used to giving, not getting. All I can say is a hearty ho, ho' ho," said an emotional Hobbs.
